Throughout the weekend of the 5th Annual Crail Food Festival, some of Fife’s finest chefs will present demonstrations at the Cookery Theatre in Crail Kirk Hall, supported by Ardross Farm Shop. Jenny Thomson (Courses For Cooks) 11.45 am Saturday 13th June
Jenny ran the inspirational Butterchurn tearoom just outside of Kelty for many years, she was always well ahead of her time, focusing on local and seasonal produce. Now she runs home cooking courses from her kitchen which is set in a Victorian manse in Fife and is always a joy to watch. Jenny’s demonstration will open the Cookery Theatre on Saturday, she is an exemplary cook with a warmth and passion which we are happy to share.
Marie Clare James (Federation Of Chefs Scotland) 13.00 pm Saturday 13th June
Marie Clare was with us two years ago at the harbour when we had great fun with Chef Paul Wedgwood from Wedgwood The Restaurant. This year she will be representing The Federation of Chefs Scotland and bringing her culinary skills and a guest chef for the day – who will be Grant MacNichol of Rufflets Hotel.
Christopher Trotter (Fife Food Ambassador) 14.15 pm Saturday 13th June
Professional chef and cookery writer, Christopher has been involved with the festival from year to year, but it’s a first for our cookery stage. Not for him though, he is a talented demo chef with years of food experience which he will share with us.
Willie Balfour (SRUC Elmwood) 15.30pm Saturday 13th June
Last but by no means least on Saturday, Willie is a head chef lecturer and was a real hit last year. During the day he spends his time helping, training, encouraging and nurturing our future chefs. During his time at Crail Food Festival he will be cooking food for us in the Eat Neuk pop-up in Marketgate on Saturday, finishing at 15.00pm just in time to entertain us for the last slot of the day.
Paul Hart (The Adamson) 11.45am Sunday 14th June
Our friends from The Adamson will be with us again. Everyone will remember the fun we had with Scott Davies during our al fresco lobster cooking days at Crail Harbour in 2013, only to return as a Masterchef the Professionals finalist last year. This time we are delighted to announce that talented award-winning chef Paul Hart will be with us to kick start Sunday. Eagerly anticipated, we look forward to welcoming Paul to Crail.
Geoffrey Smeddle (The Peat Inn) 13.00pm Sunday 14th June
Privately owned and Michelin starred, The Peat Inn offers one of Fife’s finest restaurant experiences. A regular column in the Glasgow Herald highlights Geoffrey’s outstanding recipes. He is happy to share them with us and what’s more you can watch it all unfold and meet the chef himself. I’m sure many of The Peat Inn customers will be there.
Jamie Scott (Rocca @ St Andrews) 14.15pm Sunday 14th June
Rocca at St Andrews has been awarded 3 AA rosettes. It’s the home of Executive Chef David Aspin & the team and a lovely place to sit and enjoy fine food and wines. It’s also where you will find 2014 Masterchef The Professionals winner, Jamie Scott, who will be cooking with ingredients including beef and scallops in our bespoke cookery theatre.
Craig Millar (Craig Millar @ 16 West End) 15.30pm Sunday 14th June
Craig has helped Crail Food Festival since our launch in 2011, when he showed us how to prepare a fascinating dish from a bag of frozen peas! Craig’s down to earth sense of humour and great personality combined with stunning cooking skills make it a pleasure to welcome him back to Crail. Craig will bring the cookery theatre to a close on Sunday 14th.
I’m sure you will agree that we are extremely lucky to have such a wealth of experience descending on Crail to celebrate local food and drink, but if you would like to guarantee your seat at any of these sessions please, book in advance. Such is the demand for this popular venue it would be a shame to miss out. I’ve bought mine already!
